A trained and licensed electrician is a commercial electrician who focuses on cabling and electrical systems in commercial buildings rather than residential buildings. In big buildings including shopping centers, office buildings, restaurants, government buildings, and high rises, these electricians work with larger networks. Some elements of the work and preparation are close to those of residential electricians, but when considering your future electrical career there are still some significant distinctions to consider. Most states have separate licenses for commercial electricians and residential ones. That is because the equipment and cabling used in industrial environments are different. Residential power is one-phase, while the power to commercial buildings is three-phase. To be able to work with these important differences, electricians working on commercial wiring need to be trained to.

A contractor in telecommunications works with a range of customers, primarily to install or maintain telecommunications networks. A telephone company is a primary client for this type of enterprise. Originally, most telecommunications companies kept this type of work in-house, maintaining a staff of individuals who would physically complete the work required to establish a telecommunications network. However, outsourcing of this service is more cost-effective. Many former telecommunications company workers started their own telecommunications contractor firms or entered existing businesses. Many of the workers have completed a training program or acquired the expertise from job experience to job for a telecommunications contractor company. The training programs are unique to all telephone companies and are not open to the general public.

Endwell, NY

Endwell is a hamlet situated in the city of Union in Broome County, New York, USA. The population at the 2010 census was 11,446. Endwell is located in between Endicott and Johnson City villages. It is west of Binghamton and is called the city’s suburb. Endwell is also home to a popular local park, Highland Park, well-known in the area for its annual display of Fourth of July fireworks and its classic carousel. Although most Endwell resident children attending public schools are served through the Maine-Endwell School District, some are attending the Union-Endicott School District.

Endwell used to be recognized as “Hooper,” but due to post office rules the name had to be changed in 1921. Too many locations with the Hooper name were in the state. The most likely story, shared by an elderly man who attended the meeting to change the name: Endicott Johnson Corporation produced the “Endwell” line of shoes. An advertisement for the shoes read, “Wear the Endwell shoes and it’s going to end your day well.”

Hooper was a part of the town of Union in Broome County and first appears as a depot of the newly built Erie Railroad at the intersection of what is now Hooper Road and the Norfolk Southern Railway on a map in the early 1850s. The main road passed only south along the north bank of the Susquehanna River, which had existed since colonial times and long before as an Indian trail. Naming depots for landowners who donated or leased land to the railroad to create a depot was common practice at the time, and this is where the name “Hooper” originated. Hooper and Union (at the junction of what is now Route 26N and Route 17C) were the only settlements on the north side of the Susquehanna River between Binghamton and Owego up until 1890. Between 1850 and 1950 several businesses were located near this commercial site, including a creamery (dairy plant) that at the time reflected the predominantly dairy-based economy in the immediate surrounding area.

In 1853, a U.S. post office named Hooper was established in one of the general stores near this site, and “Hooper” was the term commonly used between the villages of Johnson City and Endicott for the unincorporated area of the city of Union until “Endwell” was adopted in 1921.
