Electrical engineers today design electrical devices and systems that use common components such as conductors, coils, magnets, batteries, switches, resistors, condensers, inductors, diodes, and transistors. These few basic components are used by nearly all electrical and electronic devices, from the generators at an electrical power plant to the microprocessors in your phone. Critical skills required in electrical engineering include a thorough understanding of electrical and electronic theory, maths, and materials. This system helps engineers to design circuits to perform specific functions and meet safety, reliability, and energy efficiency requirements, and to predict how they will behave before implementing a hardware design. However, often circuits are designed on “breadboards,” or prototype circuit boards made on computer-controlled numeric (CNC) machines to be tested before they are placed into production.
